My sister is finally off to camp for the week! Yes, four days of freedom. Then she'll be back for three days and we won't see each other for another three weeks. I love my sister, but I love to love her from afar. On another note, today I finished reading Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey. I found this book surprisingly not shallow and fluffy. It was fun and not too deep, don't get me wrong. But I didn't find it over the top and cheesy. The review is under the cut. No spoilers this time.
I didn't know if I would enjoy this book very much. I'd put it on hold with the library, but some books with vampires now are just cheesy, and not always the good kind. I was surprised though. The book was humorous and compelling. I like Lucius's struggle with himself and with his love for Jessica. It made him more complex and real. I also love how he made Jessica see herself as beautiful. I think my favorite part may have been the shopping trip. I liked how this book didn't make love easy on the characters. They had to work for their happily ever after. I think the author did a great job of showing Lucius's thoughts, even though the story was in Jessica's point of view, through his letters. My only real complaint is I wish Lucius had actually opened up and told Jessica how he got some of his scars. But then again, maybe he was afraid of scaring her with his past.
